LEGO 70427 Hidden Side Portal

LEGO 70427 hidden side portal

There is a new wave of Hidden side sets coming right after Christmas in 2019.  Six new Hidden side sets are coming, and this one, the Hidden Side Portal is one of the most affordable of the sets, and it comes with a lot of minifigures to play with. What is interesting about this set is that it has 3 ghost figures, and the Jack character is a little bit different than the previous versions, at least according to the images shown on the official LEGO press release.

LEGO 70425 Hidden Side Newbury Haunted High School

Who doesn’t love a good Haunted High School. The LEGO Hidden Side Newbury Hauted High school is the biggest set of the brand new series, and has lots of great features, and reminds me of two previous series LEGO released, but then didn’t continue.

This set had 9 bags and took a few hours to build at a relaxed pace. There are lots of hidden features, and it was fun to discover them as I built and then played with it.

LEGO 70425 Hidden Side Newbury Haunted High release date.

The Hidden Haunted High School LEGO set is scheduled to be released on August 1, 2019. This is not a VIP only release. I expect this series of sets to be available at both the official LEGO store, as well as 3rd party retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart.

I generally only buy my LEGO sets at the LEGO store (so I can get the VIP points), at Amazon, using affiliate links to support fellow bloggers, or at Target with my RED card so I can get a 5% discount.

LEGO 70418 Pieces & Minifigures

There are 1474 pieces in this set, including 7 minifigures and Spencer the dog. Paola, Jack, Parker, Mr Elton, Rose Davids, Mr Clarke, and Wade.

The size of the assembled Graveyard Mystery set is over 11” (30cm) high, 16” (43cm) wide and 10” (26cm) deep when haunted.

It has 2 full sticker sheets (most of the hidden side sets use a lot of stickers. It has a lot of the new haunted green pieces as well.

All of he Hidden Side sets are focused around the town of Newberry, where strange things happen. You can’t see them without the use of an iPhone, or iPad app, however. From the LEGO website:

Using the LEGO® Hidden Side™ app is like looking through a window to a cool and spooky Hidden Side filled with challenging mysteries to solve, ghosts to defeat and unique ghost bosses, like Mamali, to overcome in each set.

This set is priced at $129.99 US and will be on sale starting August 1, 2019.

LEGO Hidden Side Information

From the LEGO website:

Solve the mysteries haunting the town of Newbury before it’s too late. Forget what you know – you’ve never experienced LEGO® play like this before. Your phone opens the door to a virtual hidden world where your LEGO sets come alive in an unfolding ghostly adventure.

It seems these LEGO sets will use your phone to do some kind of Augmented Reality. LEGO tried this before with the Dimensions sets (which were sort of a flop, and now only collected by hard core fans). This seems different though. Not only do you get a set where you can build something and play with it , but when you point your phone at it it comes alive or something and you get an additional experience.

LEGO 70423 Hidden Side Paranormal Intercept Bus 3000

What would you do if the LEGO 70423 Hidden Side Paranormal Intercept Bus 3000 showed up to take you to school one day? I can tell you that I’d be a little bit scared, but know it would be super awesome, too.

When I was a kid, I never got to take the school bus to School. I lived within walking distance to the school (I could see it from my back gate). In fact, the only times I was on a bus as a kids was for field trips or for the emergency tests that happened every few years to make sure you knew how to get out if there was an accident.

LEGO 70418 Hidden Side J.B.’s Ghost Lab

LEGO 70418 JB Ghost Lab Hidden Side set

As a former scientist, I always love it when LEGO releases a laboratory set. This set, 70418 Hidden Side J.B.’s Ghost Lab LEGO 70418 from the new Hidden Side Series, takes the standard lab, and shakes it up into something different, but very cool!

Although there are some standard things in this set that make it look like a normal lab, things like Erlenmeyer flasks, there are also other things like a 3D printer, a large electrical apparatus resembling something from Dr. Frankenstein, and a few other control panels for unidentifiable, but very cool equipment.

LEGO 70420 Hidden Side Graveyard Mystery

The brand new LEGO 70420 Hidden Side Graveyard Mystery is one of seven new sets released in this series. This set is one of the more reasonably priced ones at around $30 US, and has four new minifigures. More about that below. The tombstone twists, the tree shakes, and the grave opens for lots of brick play-ability. Then there is the Augmented reality side.

It used to be that when you purchased a LEGO set, you could build it, and take it apart, rebuild it, or change it into something else, but unless you had other sets and LEGO bricks to use, it was challenging to create something new and different. Now, with the Augmented Reality LEGO sets, a software update can be made, and a whole new story or experience can be created using the same sets. There might not be anything else to buy, or it could be a very affordable $0.99 update. Either way, it would be easy to change the play-ability with the click of a button.

There are 335 pieces in this set, including 4 minifigures: heroes Jack Davids and Parker L. Jackson, a skeleton figure and Mr. Branson, plus Davids’s ghost dog figure, Spencer, to pretend play the ghost-catching play in this graveyard toy and in the AR app.

LEGO 70422 Hidden Side Shrimp Shack Attack

The brand new LEGO 70422 Shrimp Shack Attack is a new Hidden Side set. Not only does it come with cool LEGO bricks and minifigs, but it also has a unique augmented reality play feature that you can use on your mobile phone or iPad. That means there are 4 ways to play – you can build the LEGO set following the instructions, you can use the pieces included in the set to create your own MOC, you can play with the Hidden Side set once it is built, and now, you can interact with the set in a virtual world, where new and unique features are unlocked.

Personally, I think the new Augmented reality is an amazing new play feature that LEGO is introducing to its new sets and models. I don’t know if their market research shows that sales are slowing because of kids preferring to play with technology, but Cell phones and iPads are here to say, there’s no way around it. Why not incorporate them into learning and play?

There are 570 pieces in this set, including 6 minifigures. Jack Davids with smartphone and girl minifigure Parker L. Jackson with smartphone, Chef Enzo with two knives, Sally with tray and cup, Ronny, and Davids’s ghost dog figure, Spencer.

The size of the assembled Shrimp Attack Shack set is over 7” (19cm) high, 12” (32cm) wide and 3” (10cm) deep when haunted.

From what I can tell, this set comes with a shrimp shack with a sign, a rooftop deck, and compartments that open in the main building. There is a go-cart with room for 2 minifigs, and lots of little accessories. It is also my understanding that the sign pulls away from the kitchen and becomes a haunted sign, but I don’t know if this is in real life, or the augmented reality.

LEGO 70424 Ghost Train Express

The brand new LEGO 70424 Ghost Train Express is an L-gauge train, with a cool augmented reality play feature that you can use on your mobile phone or iPad. That means there are 4 ways to play – you can build the LEGO set following the instructions, you can use the pieces included in the set to create your own Mystery Train, you can play with the Hidden Side Train once the set is built, and now, you can interact with the set in a virtual world, where new and unique features are unlocked.

Ever since I was a little kid, LEGO trains have fascinated me. In the 1970s, I recall my parents coaxing a friend who had family in Germany to pick up some European LEGO train sets when she went to visit. Of course most of those sets ended up in pieces, and what was left went to my brother and nephews. Now I generally buy 3 sets, one to build, one to save, and starting this fall, one to give away – follow me on Instagram @theBrickLand for more details!

The size of the assembled Ghost train and station set is over 5” (14cm) high, 5” (15cm) wide and 24” (61cm) long when haunted.

I looks like there is a station, and three train cars included in the set, as well as a short section of track. The station appears to be a simple raised platform with the facade of a train station, and associated details. The train consists of a Locomotive, a second car with a minifigure in a clear case, and the third car which appears to be a mystery box. There are multiple glow in the dark elements, including teeth and wings on the Locomotive, as well as on the station, too.

LEGO Treehouse 21318

Lego 21318 Treehouse

There have been a lot of recent sets generated from the IDEAS group. The next one to come out, will be the Treehouse set 21318. Other recent sets have been the classic Steamboat Willie, Flintstones, and the Popup Book.

Opening the LEGO Treehouse Box
Opening the LEGO Treehouse Box

Lego 21318 Treehouse is a new 2019 set that is due to be released on August 1 2019. According to preliminary box photos it will have 2287 pieces and is labeled for ages 16 and up. At this time this is just speculation, but based on my sources on Instagram and in Europe, this set could already be in the backroom of some LEGO stores. Supposedly, this picture, was taken on the shelf of a LEGO store somewhere in the world. At least that is according to this website.

LEGO 21318 Pieces & Minifigures

There are 3036 pieces in this set, including 4 minifigures. Since LEGO hasn’t released anything official yet, all I can go off of is a grainy box art photo, and rumors from other websites. I can see that this is based on the original LEGO Ideas model created by KevinTreeHouse, and it quickly received the needed 10,000 votes to be approved to move to the next stage.

If you look at the box picture above, you can see that the leaves are brown, but in the Ideas photos, the leaves are green. I believe that the set will contain 2 sets of LEGO foliage, the brown fall version, as well as the spring green version. I wonder if they will be using newer Plants from Plants pieces they announced earlier this year.

LEGO Treehouse set price

My understanding is that the LEGO Treehouse set price is going to be around $200. We all know that LEGO sets are expensive, and the themed ones are even more so. That puts the pieces in the 6.6 cents range which is actually lower than many sets with current prices.

LEGO 70419 Hidden Side Wrecked Shrimp Boat

LEGO 60219 Hidden Side Wrecked Shrimp Boat

I so wish I was at the New York Toy Fair this year. LEGO had a huge booth there and they unveiled their new Hidden Side series. There will be a total of 7 sets, and this is a post for the LEGO Wrecked Shrimp Boat Hidden Side 70419.

The great thing about having these released at a toy fair is there are lots of high quality photos availible that I can share with you. Of course when the sets are released in August, I’m going to get all of them and replace these images with photos of my own. But for now this will have to do.

LEGO 70419 Pieces & Minifigures

There are 310 pieces in this set, including 4 minifigures. A young boy and young girl with purple hair in a kayak a haunted zombie fisherman, and a regular dock worker. I also see a new trans clear dog and a white alligator. There also appears to be some kind of trans green monster octopus behind the zombie

At first glance, it appears the boat can break apart into two pieces, using some technic studs. I also see a new color sword – it sort of looks glow in the dark green, and I wonder if it is a special color for the augmented reality app on the phone.

This set is priced at $29.99 US.

LEGO 75958 Beauxbatons Carriage Arrival At Hogwarts

LEGO 75958 Beauxbatons Carriage Arrival At Hogwarts Box

Today My eyes and ears perked up when I learned that there was going to be yet another Harry Potter LEGO set released this summer. LEGO 75958 Beauxbatons Carriage Arrival At Hogwarts is going to come out in the summer of 2019 LEGO wave, along with a bunch of other Harry Potter sets.

This set is based on a classic scene from the Goblet of Fire, the 4th book (and movie) in the classic Harry Potter Series. I’m not sure why LEGO is releasing new Harry Potter sets this year, the next movie, the 3rd one in the Fantastic Beasts series isn’t going to be released until Nov 20, 2020, but we will have this new Lego set later this summer. Keep reading for more details

LEGO 75958 Pieces & Minifigures

There are 184 pieces in this set, including 4 minifigures. Madame Maxime, Fleur Delacour, Gabrielle Delacour, Hagrid. What I really like is the way LEGO made the Madame Maxime Minifigure taller than all the others. I also really like how Hagrid is dressed up a little bit. They are all getting ready for the Tri-Wizard Tournament Ball.

I also really like that you get two winged horses in this set, as well as a very detailed carriage. Plus I like all the golden detail pieces (wheels, gates, windows) because I can always use pieces like that in my LEGO Disneyland MOC.

According to an article I read the Carriage opens up and converts to two floors with beds, drawers and tea sets.

LEGO Beauxbatons Carriage Arrival At Hogwarts

This set is priced at 49.99 Euros, which is about $50 according to current exchange rates
