When is the LEGO Family Tree Released?
According to LEGO.com, the new Ideas family tree 21346 will be released on Feb 1, 2024.
This is a sort of surprise release, as today is just Jan 4, and we have been building up the announcement for the 100+ new sets that just dropped. But that is what LEGO does – they keep us on our toes!
How big is the LEGO 21346 family tree?
This set has 1040 pieces
The overall size of the set is:
- 11.5 in. (29 cm) high
- 7 in. (18 cm) wide
- 7 in. (18 cm) deep
This puts it in a size range in between the Bonsai set, and the original LEGO Ideas tree.
What’s in the Box
So I don’t have this set yet, it will be a day 1 purchase for me.
Sure I could pre-order it but I want to see what the Feb Gift with Purchase will be, and see if it ties in to this tree set.
What Im seeing in the photos is pretty unique for a set. Not only do you ge a buildable family tree, but you get a lot of little accessory elements that can be placed on it.
Of course this set reminds me of another LEGO Ideas Tree set, the original Ideas Tree House, which came out in August of 2019 (yep that long ago).
This new LEGO Ideas set isn’t as big – it has roughly 1/3 the piece count of the first one. But what makes this set different, and so amazing, are all the accessories.
The idea is that you place little photos, or mocs, or things on the tree to remind you of family. It comes with 16 little hanging holders to display small photos, messages and other paper items.
But that’s not all. The base of the tree opens to reveal a hidden storage compartment with all kinds of accessory elements: Butterflies, birds, flower elements, binoculars food elements roller skates and a magnifying glass are all also included.
You don’t have to stop there. I personally would add little mini builds of some of my favorite things too – like maybe a microscale Galaxy Explorer or other Star Wars set. Because it is LEGO, your creativity is endless, and you can do whatever you want!
Adjusting to all seasons
In addition to all the little accessories, the set omes with different pieces to adjust the seasons. You can add flower elements on the tree’s branches to change with the seasons.
Create the perfect idyllic scene with seasonal tree foliage! I am looking forward to seeing the different ways people decorate this tree on Instagram. Does anyone have a suggestion for a hashtag? Let me know in the comments.
A LEGO gift for Non-LEGO lovers
As soon as I saw this set, I thought to myself, that this was the ultimate gift for me to give to my parents and in-laws (OK it wouldn’t come from me exactly, but instead the kiddo). I would carefully wrap it as either a holiday or birthday present, and then also include some personal photos and other microscale builds with it to make the most ultimate LEGO wonderful creative gift!
One thing I am wondering about is if it is a “build it together” set – that’s where two or more builders can work on it simultaneously. I thing that would make for an amazing build experience for a grandfather/son (or similar) combination.
Designed to be displayed in your home
This set is the perfect size to sit on a shelf in you home. Or a family member’s house too! Place the Family tree over your mantle, on in a bookshelf, or small table. You can easily create unique home decor with it, and just because it is LEGO doesn’t mean it has to be hidden away.
In fact, there are lots of LEGO sets that can be displayed around your home. From the new Botanical set to the gigantic Eiffel Tower, there is no reason not to show off your LEGO projects!
But with this tree, you can decorate it with personal items and other paper mementos so that whenever you walk by it, you are reminded of each other!
What are LEGO Ideas Sets?
The LEGO Ideas theme is a unique platform that allows LEGO enthusiasts to submit their own creative designs for potential production. These fan-submitted ideas range from intricate architecture and iconic landmarks to pop culture references, offering a diverse array of sets that reflect the creativity and passion of the LEGO community.
This set was unique however – It didn’t participate in the usual Ideas process, but instead was a submission to a contest called “What does Family Mean to you?” You can read more about it, and see an original photo of the set on the contest page.
OK – I don’t even need to have this set in hand yet to give it 5 Stars. One drawback is the overall value of the set – it is sort of pricey for the size, but I can easily overlook that because of everything I’ve written above.
The ability to relive nostalgic memories and have a great display piece in my home makes this set a winner.
