Oswald Minifigure Background & Trivia
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was a popular animated character created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1927. Here’s a brief history:
In 1927, Walt Disney created Oswald for Universal Studios, and the character became an instant hit.
In 1928, Disney and Iwerks traveled to New York to negotiate a new contract with Universal, but they were surprised to learn that Universal had hired away all of Disney’s animators and was taking over production of Oswald cartoons.
This loss of Oswald led Disney to create a new character, Mickey Mouse, who would become even more popular than Oswald.
Three bullet point facts about Oswald the Lucky Rabbit are:
Oswald was the first character to feature in Disney’s “Silly Symphonies” series of cartoons, which were known for their innovative use of music and sound effects.
Oswald’s design was influenced by a number of popular cartoon characters of the time, including Felix the Cat and Krazy Kat.
Despite being a major success for Universal, Oswald’s popularity declined in the 1930s, and the character was eventually retired. However, he has since been revived by Disney, and Oswald now appears in various forms of media, including video games and comic books.
